Spalmatore Tower
Standing sentinel over the sea since 1763, the Spalmatore Tower dominates the bay with its austere charm. A Bourbon-era stronghold defying time, a silent witness to tales of pirates and seafarers.
Description
Located in the western part of the island in the Spalmatore area, the Tower is a structure dating back to 1763 from the Bourbon period. This watchtower, twin and contemporary to the Santa Maria Tower, was part of Sicily’s coastal warning system. After a restoration in 1996, it became the headquarters of the Marine Protected Area.
Access procedure
The Spalmatore Tower houses a research and study center, a library, and a conference hall. The tower provides space for office work, small conferences, meetings, and exhibitions. It hosts informational and educational activities, cultural events, school group visits, film screenings, and hosts exhibitions and displays.
