The core concept of the “Ustum Cultural Programme” project is to reduce social and cultural marginalization by diversifying and destigmatizing the island’s tourism offerings. This is achieved through new itineraries, experiences, and proposals that interconnect and enhance cultural and natural resources under an integrated vision, leveraging new technologies and the active role of the community as key drivers of sustainable development.

The project objectives are:

• enhance the cultural offerings by upgrading existing facilities and sites and utilizing new technologies;
• identify and formally recognize the intangible heritage and identity resources that form the foundation of the strategic plan for social and cultural regeneration;
• establish Ustica as an international benchmark for global policies on marine ecosystem and environmental protection;
• reduce social and cultural marginalization;
• centralize the role of communities to give sustainability to initiatives and activate self-regeneration policies;
• stimulate community empowerment processes.
